TEAM BUILDING

Building a team doesn’t just happen on the ice!  Many coaches will tell you that it takes that first “away” tournament to get a team to gel.  Why not get your team bonding at the beginning of the year with some off-ice activities!

A team “bonding” activity can be something as easy as a pizza party at a teammates house, a game of ball hockey at a school gym, or for the more creative a “themed” evening of team building.  Whatever the event, it is a great opportunity for kids and parents to meet and get to know one another.

If you are looking for a facility to hold your off-ice “bonding” try renting a local church hall, school gym or check out your local arena, some have community rooms to rent.  Most of these places only charge a nominal fee for rental.  Add in the cost of a snack and split the cost evenly between the parents.

If you have a great team bonding idea why don’t you send them to us at info@hockeymom.com!  Try some of the team building games below:

If you would like to get more creative with your off-ice bonding why don’t you host a night with some fun competition and give it a theme like “Survivor” or my personal favorite “Breaking the Ice!”

Since you will have 12 – 17 kids make sure that you divide the kids up into teams.  This is a good opportunity to put the kids into groups according to their on-ice lines or shift changes.  They will stay in these groups for the activities throughout the evening.

If you have great team building ideas, we would love to hear them and share them with other hockey parents!  Contact us at info@hockeymom.com!
